On December 05, 2018, the Resident Representative Office of the Association of Towns Awarded the Europe Prize in Ukraine presented its work.
The event took place at Kharkiv City Council within the framework of the International Conference “Peculiarities of Interaction between Foreign and Diplomatic Missions and Local Authorities: Local Aspect”. Its attendees were deputy mayors, directors of departments of Kharkiv City Council, honorary consuls of foreign countries in Kharkiv, representatives of the academia.
The Deputy Mayor – Director of the Department of Economics and Municipal Property, Mr. Mykhailo Fatieiev, noted that participation in the work of the Association enables Kharkiv to establish bilateral mutually beneficial relations with its member cities, who are united by joint interests. Some examples of this are: the signing in 2016 of the Memorandum on Cooperation in Tourism between the cities of Kharkiv and Czestochowa (Poland); the signing in 2017 of the Protocol of Intentions between the cities of Kharkiv and Lublin (Poland); establishing of bilateral contacts at the intermunicipal level with the city of Avignon (France). Most recently (August 15, 2018), all the necessary procedures for proper state registration of the Resident Representative Office of the Association of Towns Awarded the Europe Prize in Ukraine with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine were finally completed, and now it has a lot of serious work to do. Mr. Fatieiev expressed conviction that the Resident Representative Office will adequately cope with all the complex and responsible tasks set before it. And on its part, Kharkiv City Council will support the activities of the representative office in every possible way under the City Council’s program of international relations development and improvement of international cooperation forms and methods.
The Director of State Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ms. Olha Chubrikova, remarked that Kharkiv worthily represents Ukraine in the international arena, “This includes the work of the City Council with the foreign diplomatic corps, the wide network of honorary consular institutions in the city, the organization of programs for official visits of high-ranking officials from foreign countries. It is only logical that such scope of activity could not have gone unnoticed.”
The Head of the Resident Representative Office of the Association of Towns Awarded the Europe Prize in Ukraine, Ms. Oleksandra Chykhladze, shared some plans of office for the near future,“We intend to intensify cooperation with other Ukrainian cities in the spheres of experience exchange, consultations, professional exchanges. We will promote European values and disseminate the ideas of European unity.”
